VIDEO: Do The Bataan Memorial Death March in Less Than 7 Minutes

WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE, N.M. (Feb. 28, 2018) – With only four days left to register for the 2018 Bataan Memorial Death March, a new video allows you to run the course from start to finish in under seven minutes.

Set to the “William Tell Overture” performed by the U.S. Marine Corps Band “President’s Own,” the sneak-peak video runs the length of the 26.2-mile course, some parts of which have changed slightly for this year’s event. An inset map displays the course route and shows the start and finish lines as well as water points along the way. A red dot tracks the viewer’s position as the video makes its way along the course.

As of this morning, 7,382 people have signed up for the event, a number that breaks all previous records. Last year,7,204 people took part. Marchers come from every American military service, all 50 states and several foreign countries.

The 29th annual March kicks off Sunday morning, March 25. Registration closes at midnight on March 4. Participants may register at bataanmarch.com.

The March honors the Soldiers who defended the Philippines in the opening days of World War II. Thousands of American and Filipino Soldiers were surrendered to the invading Japanese April 9, 1942, and forced to march more than 60 miles through rugged jungle to prison camps. Thousands died on the march while imprisoned.

Several survivors of the original march will be on hand for this year’s event.
