Suspect Sought: Las Cruces Police Officer Injured In Hit And Run

Police are asking for the public’s help locating the driver of a vehicle responsible for a hit-and-run crash that injured a Las Cruces police officer.

Shortly before noon on Thursday, Nov. 30, a small 4-door sedan entered the intersection of Amador Avenue and Water Street and broadsided a Kia which then struck a marked police unit. The driver of the Kia did not report any injuries but the Las Cruces police officer’s hand was injured during the crash. The officer was taken to a local hospital. Her injuries are relatively minor.

Traffic investigators learned that a small 4-door sedan, possibly gray in color, was southbound on Water Street when it ran a stop sign and struck the Kia that was heading west on Amador. The force of the crash pushed the Kia into the marked police unit traveling in the westbound lane to the left.

The driver of the sedan failed to stop and render aid. The vehicle fled the area west on Amador and was last seen heading south on Alameda Boulevard. The vehicle most likely has damage to its front-end and possibly to the driver’s side.

Anyone with information that can help locate the small 4-door sedan involved in this crash, or identify its driver, is asked to call Las Cruces police at (575) 526-0795.
