Culture Series: Cowboy Music and Storytelling by Steve Cormier
Jan. 12, 7 p.m.
Cowboy music is the Western version of the human condition, according to Steve Cormier. His music is mainly old and traditional cowboy fare and reflects his nine years as a ranch and farm hand. Teaching college history for 22 years also has influenced his music. Along the way, he has played roles in film and television. Admission is free.
Exhibit Opening: Jay Hill: Our Wholesome Valley
Jan. 19, 5:30-8 p.m.
The beautiful photography of farming in the Mesilla Valley is featured in this spectacular exhibit. The opening reception on Jan. 12 is free and will include refreshments. Jay Hill's life as a farmer took on an artistic side when he began taking pictures in 2012. Since then, his dramatic photographs have captured the beauty of modern farming in the Las Cruces area. The exhibit features 23 of Hill's photographs.
Antique Treasures Show
Jan. 29, Noon to 4 p.m.
The Museum’s preservation and collection programs are featured in this event, which is the only time of the year that the Collection Storage Room is open for tours. More than 10,000 objects are stored in this climate-controlled room. Also visitors are encouraged to bring their own antiques and heirlooms to learn more about them and how to preserve them. Appraisers also will be on site for this year’s event. Regular admission applies ($5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens, $3 for children 4 to 17, and free for children 3 and under and Museum Members).
