Las Cruces Woman Charged With Battery In Alleged Shooting Of Boyfriend

Doña Ana County Sheriff’s detectives have charged a Las Cruces woman with aggravated battery against a household member after she allegedly shot her boyfriend during an argument Sunday night.

April Nastasi, 45, was arrested June 19 at Mountain View Medical Center. According to the investigation, Nastasi and her 48-year-old boyfriend were going to bed Sunday night when an argument ensued after Nastasi’s phone alerted her to a text message. During an interview, the victim told detectives he had asked Nastasi to turn her phone off so the two could get some sleep.

The victim told detectives he decided to leave Nastasi’s house, which is in the 2700 block of Desert Wind Way, and go stay with a relative. As he was gathering his things to leave, he reportedly saw Nastasi with a handgun and asked if she was going to shoot him. He told detectives he turned to leave and felt a shot go through his left arm, just above the elbow.

Nastasi reportedly drove the victim to the hospital. While en route, the victim tried to call 911 but told detectives Nastasi grabbed his phone and ended the call.

Deputies met the couple at the hospital, where Nastasi was subsequently arrested. She was transported to the Doña Ana County Detention Center where she was booked on charges of aggravated battery of a household member and resisting/obstructing. She later posted a $30,000 secured bond.

The victim’s injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
