A former Fort Bliss soldier has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to reckless injury to his infant son in the child's death.
Former Spc. Jeffrey Farrey was sentenced Tuesday in El Paso. His wife, Jenna Farrey, was previously sentenced to 35 years in prison after pleading guilty to injury to a child in the death of 5-month-old Jackson Farrey, whose body was found buried in the New Mexico desert in November 2013.
Both could have been sentenced to life imprisonment if convicted at trial of their charges.
Records show the Farreys had said they found the child unresponsive and failed to seek medical care. An autopsy found the child had choked to death.
