Three, Including Son Of New Mexico Legislator, Plead Not Guilty In Fatal Drive By Shooting

Donovan Maez

Three suspects in the fatal drive-by shooting of an Albuquerque teenager are pleading not guilty to the crime.

All three entered pleas Friday during their arraignment in Bernalillo County.

They face several counts including first-degree murder with a firearm enhancement.

The judge ordered all three held on $250,000 cash-only bail.

One of the suspects is 18-year-old Donovan Maez, son of Democratic Rep. Stephanie Maez of Albuquerque.

The state lawmaker was seen in court wiping away tears but she did not comment.

Authorities say the other two suspects are 21-year-old Christopher Cruz and a 16-year-old boy who already was in custody on unrelated charges.

Police say shots were fired from a vehicle at a home on June 26 and 17-year-old Jaydon Chavez-Silver was killed.
