Forecasters say New Mexico's eastern plains could get more severe thunderstorms with a potential for heavy rain, hail and damaging wind in a region where some communities already have experienced downpours.
According to the National Weather Service, the risk for flash flooding is greatest across the east-central and southeastern plains, with less thunderstorm activity expected in and west of the Rio Grande Valley.
The weather service reports that Curry County in particular had heavy rain late Monday, including over 5 inches at Cannon Air Force Base at Clovis. Extensive street flooding was reported in Clovis and Portales.
