Apartment Fire In Las Cruces

The Las Cruces Fire Department extinguished a fire in an apartment complex Tuesday evening.

Firefighters from the Las Cruces Fire Department responded shortly before 9 pm to an apartment fire in the 300 block of Foster Tuesday November 18. Firefighters were able to force entry and quickly extinguish the fire located in a bedroom. The apartment tenants were not home at the time of the incident. Alert neighbors called 911 after hearing a smoke detector. There were no reported injuries to firefighters or civilians.

The cause of the fire was determined to be a candle that was left on and unattended. Damages are estimated to be close to $10,000.

The Las Cruces Fire Department would like to remind the public to use care and caution with candles and space heaters. Ensure all candles and space heaters are on a flat hard surface and away from combustibles when in use. Prior to leaving the room extinguish candles and unplug space heaters. For more safety tips please contact The Las Cruces Fire Department at (575)-528-3473 or visit The Las Cruces Police Department Facebook page.
