Las Cruces Woman Charged For Allegedly Stabbing Brother

Police arrested a Las Cruces woman suspected of stabbing her 52-year-old brother following an argument last Thursday evening.

Chastity Lujan Yates, 38, is charged with one count each of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm and tampering with evidence.

At around 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, Las Cruces Police learned that medical personnel at Memorial Medical Center were treating a 52-year-old man for stab wounds to his neck. The man was stabilized at MMC, then airlifted for more advanced care at University Medical Center of El Paso. His injuries at the time were deemed possibly life-threatening.

Investigators learned that Yates and her brother got into an argument Thursday evening at her residence on the 500 block of east Griggs Avenue. The argument escalated and Yates is alleged to have stabbed her brother multiple times on his neck.

After her brother was transported by private vehicle to MMC, Yates is alleged to have tried to clean the home in an attempt to remove evidence.

Yates was arrested Friday morning and booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with a cash-only bond set at $75,000. On Tuesday, Oct. 14, Yates’ brother remained in critical but stable condition at University Medical Center.
