Davis Denies Conflicts In Council, Business Work

Senator Wendy Davis (D)

A newspaper investigation finds that Democratic gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis did not always recuse herself from Fort Worth city council work when the city was considering projects that affected her business interests.

The Dallas Morning News reports that Davis occasionally voted on projects that separately involved the title insurance business she owned with her former husband.

Davis was a Fort Worth city councilwoman from 1999 to 2008, when she was elected to the State Senate.

In one instance, she voted for $21.5 million in tax breaks for hotel developers who used her title insurance company in the sale of the building.

Her campaign denied any wrongdoing and said she made sure to consult with Fort Worth's city attorney on any potential conflicts.
