12 New Inductees Planned For International Space Hall Of Fame

  (Alamogordo, New Mexico) -  The New Mexico Museum of Space History and International Space Hall of Fame Foundation are pleased to announce the Induction Class of 2014. A total of twelve individuals will be inducted into the International Space Hall of Fame during Induction Days October 16-18, 2014.

The Class of 2014 includes: X-15 pilot and Astronaut Major General Joe Engle (U.S. AF, ret.); NASA engineer John Houbolt; aerospace engineer Thomas Kelly; visionary Yuri Kondratyuk; SpaceX Founder Elon Musk; aerospace engineer Guenter Wendt; science fiction authors Jules Verne and H.G. Wells; renowned aerospace engineer and designer of SpaceShipOne Burt Rutan; X PRIZE Founder Peter Diamandis; title sponsor of the Ansari X PRIZE and the first female private space explorer Anousheh Ansari; and sole investor for SpaceShipOne and Stratolaunch Systems founder Paul Allen.

“What we have in the Induction Class of 2014 are the people who dreamed of space exploration and shared that vision with the world, the pioneers who worked to make it happen, and the adventurers who are carrying it into the future,” said New Mexico Museum of Space History Executive Director Chris Orwoll.  “It will be an honor to include them among our Inductees.”

Induction Days will be held Thursday, Oct. 16 through Saturday, Oct. 18. Activities will include: the Jules Verne & H.G. Wells Film Fest in the Tombaugh Theater on Oct. 16 & 17; a Pre-Induction Reception for Inductees and Distinguished Guests on the evening of Oct. 17; Founder’s Day Education Events from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm on Oct. 18, and the Induction Ceremony and Community Reception beginning at 4:00 pm on Oct. 18.

The International Space Hall of Fame (ISHF), an integral part of the New Mexico Museum of Space History, is the only institution that recognizes the accomplishments of the men and women worldwide who have contributed to man’s quest for space. Established in 1976, the ISHF follows strict criteria for Inductees and to date has honored 154 individuals and one team.
