Martinez Dominates Fundraising In Race For Governor

Office of the Governor

Democratic Gary King has stepped up his fundraising in New Mexico's governor's race but Republican incumbent Susana Martinez still enjoys a enormous advantage in campaign cash.

According to the latest financial reports, King raised about $379,000 during the past two months, including a $30,000 loan from the candidate.

King relied heavily on personal loans to finance his primary election campaign.

Martinez collected about $962,000 in contributions since late June.

The governor's campaign reported cash-on-hand of $3.8 million at the start of this month and King had a cash balance of almost $158,000.

Martinez spent $1.4 million during the past two months while King's campaign reported expenditures of $337,000.

The latest campaign-finance disclosures come a month

before New Mexicans start to cast ballots. Absentee voting begins Oct. 7.
