Hobbs police have arrested a driver accused of fatally hitting a man whose body was found in the middle of a road.
Police spokesman Mike Stone says 60-year-old Jose Losoya was booked into a city jail on felony charges of homicide by vehicle, great bodily harm by vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident.
Stone says officers responded Saturday at about 8:30 p.m. to reports of many lying on the ground of North Lovington Highway.
He says they found the body of 57-year-old Henry Padilla in the northbound traffic lanes.
Authorities say his injuries were consistent with being struck by a vehicle.
Lovington police found Losoya and his vehicle in Lovington.
Stone says the suspect appeared intoxicated.
Losoya is being held on a $20,000 bond.
