White Sands National Monument officials say a closure due to cleanup work after a military drone crash may have prevented visits from approximately 7,400 people.
A drone from Hollomon Air Force Base crashed on the monument on Feb. 7, and the monument located between Alamogordo and Las Cruces was closed for roughly eight days afterward.
According to the Alamogordo Daily News, monument spokeswoman Becky Burghart says the estimate was calculated from the February daily visitation average of 930 people.
