Arrests Made In Las Cruces Armed Robbery

The woman suspected of last week’s armed robbery of a beauty supply store has been arrested along with her accomplice.

Christina P. Martinez, 34, and Joshua Gonzales, 35, are both charged with one count each of conspiracy to commit armed robbery and tampering with evidence. Martinez also faces one count of armed robbery.

Martinez was arrested by U.S. Marshals on a federal warrant Saturday, Jan. 25, near Ruidoso, N.M. The federal warrant was for violating terms of her parole. Gonzales was arrested by Las Cruces Police on Tuesday, Jan. 28.

Shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, Las Cruces Police were called to Sally Beauty Supply at 1455 Hickory Lane where an armed robbery was alleged to have occurred.

Police learned that a woman, later identified as Martinez, walked into the store and threatened one of the employees with a handgun. Martinez is accused of stealing cash and merchandise from the store before walking out and heading northbound on foot.

The description of the armed robbery suspect matched that of Martinez who had a prior felony conviction. A Sally’s employee on duty Wednesday evening positively identified Martinez as the suspect.

Detectives learned that Martinez and Gonzales conspired to commit the armed robbery and then tried to dispose of the clothes Martinez wore during the crime. Detectives have since located the clothes and confirmed they are what Martinez was wearing during the robbery.

Martinez is being held without bond at the Dona Ana County Detention Center. Gonzales was booked with bond set at $100,000.
