A town hall on public education was held at KRWG-TV Wednesday night.
The town hall….co-sponsored by KRWG and the League of Women Voters of Greater Las Cruces….featured a variety of guests….including Patrick Sanchez….president of the National Education Association-Las Cruces.
Sanchez expressed concerned about the large number of standardized tests….and the plan to use test results for 50 percent of a teacher’s evaluation.
He noted that his own daughter, a student at Mayfield High School in Las Cruces, had to take 15 standardized tests in one school year.
The program also featured Bill Soules…a teacher…and state senator….as well as a Las Cruces Public Schools administrator who addressed efforts to improve instruction.
