Traffic is flowing again through Albuquerque's main interstate interchange following an hours-long standoff with a hit-and-run suspect.
Officer Simon Drobik says the standoff ended around 5 a.m. Saturday when the suspect was taken into custody. He says the man has been transported to the VA Medical Center for a psychological evaluation.
Police closed the I-25/I-40 flyover around 8 p.m. Friday when the man refused to surrender after being stopped in connection with an earlier hit-and-run accident.
Officers backed off the suspect after he showed them a gun. Additional units were called in and officers closed down numerous lanes at the Big I interchange.
The incident tied up traffic for hours.
