Fundraising is heating up for New Mexico's legislative races next year that will determine whether Democrats hold on to their majority in the state House of Representatives.
A political committee affiliated with House Speaker W. Ken Martinez, a Grants Democrat, raised $171,500 during the past six months and had a cash balance of about $121,000 as of Oct. 7.
A political action committee operated by Republican Gov. Susana Martinez reported Tuesday it had raised about $313,000 from April through earlier this month. The group, Susana PAC, had cash-on-hand of about $128,800.
The governor uses her PAC to help influence state and local races, including for the Legislature. It contributed $6,000 to three incumbent GOP House members.
The speaker's leadership PAC contributed $2,250 to five House Democratic incumbents.
