Shelters Open In Parts Of NM Due To Flooding

Heavy rainfall is forecast throughout much of central and northern New Mexico through Thursday, with the possibility of localized flash flooding.

The National Weather Service says areas with recent wildfire burn scars and mountain slopes — and places downstream from those areas — are particularly vulnerable.

American Red Cross volunteers have opened a shelter in Chavez County in southeastern New Mexico due to flooded roads stranding motorists.

The Red Cross says it is also supporting a county shelter in Vado in Dona Ana County in southern New Mexico for families evacuated due to flooding.
