Authorities say a bear ripped through a window screen and then climbed into a Los Alamos home.
The New Mexico Game and Fish Department says the bear went into the kitchen to begin rifling through the trash Tuesday morning.
According to the department, the resident went to see what was causing the commotion, causing the resident and the bear to startle each other.
The bear fled through the window it had entered earlier while the resident took refuge in a bedroom.
Game and Fish wardens set up a trap for the bear, which is believed to be the same bear seen in the neighborhood feeding in yards and trash bins recently.
Numerous bears have entered northern New Mexico communities because the drought has made food hard to find.
