Texans Asked To Post Drought Photos Online

Some state agencies dealing with the lingering Texas drought have invited people to share their original photos online.

The coalition on Monday launched an interactive public awareness campaign on how the drought has impacted lives.

The Texas Department of Agriculture, the Texas Water Development Board and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department are sponsoring the effort. Individuals are invited to share their original pictures of the drought on Flickr, Instagram and other social media platforms through Sept. 30.

State officials say more than 97 percent of Texas currently has drought conditions.

Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples says the agencies are working to collect and share people's stories for historical records, drought preparedness and to encourage water conservation. The Texas drought goes back to 2010.
