Public Meeting To Discuss Mesilla Park Historic Status

The public is invited to attend a discussion regarding the nomination of Mesilla Park to the state and national registers of historic places as a historic district. The project is part of ongoing initiatives known as "Mesilla Park Momentum." The purpose is to highlight historic Mesilla Park and its past, present, and future opportunities.

According to City Councillor Greg Smith, Dist. 2, “Many present and past residents of Mesilla Park came to last year's Quasquicentennial celebration in September, and hopes are high for even more interested folks to come out for this meeting so that this great neighborhood can be further celebrated for its history and its diversity."

Smith, Dr. Jon Hunner of the NMSU Public History Program, and Ms. Terry Moody of the New Mexico Historic Preservation Division, will answer questions and discuss the register process.

The meeting will be July 18, 6 p.m., at the Frank O'Brien Papen Community Center dining room.
