A West Texas school board has promoted an associate superintendent after it ousted the previous superintendent during a cheating scandal.
The Canutillo Independent School District Thursday night named Annette Brigham as interim superintendent, less than a month after suspending former superintendent Damon Murphy. A district audit showed possible attempts to cheat on federal accountability standards.
The Texas Education Agency has since said it will investigate cheating allegations at Canutillo.
Brigham is a 25-year veteran of the district. She has denied knowing about any wrongdoing that may have occurred.
The neighboring El Paso schools have also been embroiled in a cheating scandal.
