A teenager suspected of attacking two Las Cruces Police officers who were trying to detain his brother was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with battery.
Dominick G. Armijo, 18, of 5013 Answer Dr., faces two counts of battery upon a peace officer and was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $5,000. Armijo’s younger brother, 16-year-old Romen G. Armijo, was also arrested and faces juvenile charges.
Shortly after 4 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28, Las Cruces Police responded to a fight at the Jack in the Box restaurant at 501 S. Telshor Blvd. The first-arriving officer spotted three young men running away so he gave chase, caught up with one and secured him in the back seat of his unit.
The officer then pursued the other two individuals who ran away. As the officer attempted to stop Romen Armijo he was struck in the head by Dominick Armijo.
Dominick Armijo then ran toward a second police officer who was trying to detain his brother and tackled that officer to the ground.
The two officers were not seriously injured and both Armijo brothers were successfully taken into custody.
No charges were filed against the third young man who was temporarily detained for questioning.
