New Leader For El Paso Schools

An embattled West Texas school district has another new leader amid the investigation into a cheating scandal.

El Paso Independent School District trustees on Tuesday night chose Ken George to replace Terri Jordan as interim superintendent.

Jordan says she wanted to return to her job as district chief of staff due to family responsibilities. George retired from the district in 1997 as an associate superintendent.

EPISD leaders hope to choose a new interim superintendent in a few weeks and a new superintendent by early 2013.

Former superintendent Lorenzo Garcia was arrested last summer on public corruption charges and resigned in November. Garcia in June pleaded guilty to two charges of mail fraud stemming from a scheme in which student test scores were artificially inflated. Sentencing is next month.
