Nursing students at Dona Ana Community College left with questions about their education after the program lost its accreditation won't be getting any help from the state Board of Nursing Nursing students who traveled to a board meeting in Albuquerque on Friday were told the board doesn't require schools to be accredited. The Las Cruces Sun-News reports board official Kay Whitney told them students in unaccredited programs can still graduate and pass professional exams to become registered nurses.
The problem for about 100 students in the college's nursing program is that local hospitals require nurses to be graduates of a program recognized by the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission.
The league pulled its certification for the college last week. The college says it will try to become recertified.
