Crews Contain Three New Wildfires

Firefighters were able to save several structures and fully contain three wildfires that were sparked by lightning south of Portales in eastern New Mexico.

Dan Ware, with New Mexico State Forestry, says that severe storms sparked the fires Saturday night and that crews fought them until the early-morning hours.

Some crews were positioned near threatened structures and others worked to build containment lines until the fires were all 100 percent contained.

Crews will continue mop-up efforts Sunday, looking for hot spots and strengthening containment lines.

Combined, the fires charred 2,170 acres.
