Sunland Park, NM – One New Mexico lawmaker thinks management of city affairs in Sunland Park is so dysfunctional that the state should move in and run the city.
State Rep. Mary Helen Garcia tells the Las Cruces Sun-News (http://bit.ly/r3kCuc ) she was stunned at what she witnessed during a Monday night city council meeting.
Garcia says political tension among Sunland Park city councilors has become an increasing distraction to city business and Monday night's meeting was indicative of a government body that has stopped functioning.
The Sun-News reports accusations with legal implications were lobbed among councilors and police interceded to stop a physical fight between Mayor Martin Resendiz and Mayor Pro-Tem Daniel Salinas.
By Tuesday morning, Garcia said she had contacted the state and made them aware of the situation.
