I-25 Still Closed By Raton Fire

By KRWG News

Raton, NM – A wildfire that's forced the evacuation of hundreds of people in northern New Mexico has crossed the border into Colorado.

The Track Fire was burning on at least 6,000 acres Tuesday.

New Mexico State Forestry spokesman Dan Ware says the fire has spread at least a mile into southern Colorado. It's burning on both sides of Interstate 25 and the highway between Raton and Trinidad, Colo. remains closed.

The fire is threatening about 300 structures near Raton. So far, Ware said seven structures, including some outbuildings and hunting cabins, have been destroyed. He said more burned structures could be found once it's safe to survey areas burned by the fire.

Gov. Susana Martinez plans to visit Raton Tuesday to get a fire briefing and meet with residents.
