Las Cruces – The Bureau of Land Management says the Abrams wildfire in the Organ Mountains is now 100% contained, and Dripping Springs Natural Area reopened today (Thursday).
Fire Behavior: Minimal fire behavior - it is estimated that the fire is active within an area of approximately 75 acres. As interior pockets of vegetation continue to burn and smolder, smoke will be generated and will be visible from Las Cruces and the surrounding area.
Suppression Actions: Firefighters have accomplished 100% containment of the fire. Plans for Thursday include utilization of engines and hand-crews to mop-up and patrol. Rehab work has begun and resources will be reseeding areas that were disturbed by dozers and/or hand-lines that were constructed during fire
suppression activities.
Resources: 2 - Type 1 Hotshot (hand crews) and 2 engines are assigned to the fire. Currently, 60 personnel are assigned to the fire, which includes a rehab team.
Structures Threatened: No structures are threatened.
Closures:
Baylor Pass Trail, Pine Tree Trail (near Soledad Canyon), and Aguirre Springs Campground are closed to the public.
