LAS CRUCES, N.M. (krwg) A Mexican citizen has been sentenced to 46 months in prison for having sex with a young teenager traveling with him.
A federal judge in Las Cruces sentenced 26-year-old Alejandro Jimenez-Rodas of Chiapas, Mexico, on Tuesday on his conviction of a charge of travel with the intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct.
Jimenez-Rodas was stopped on a bus at a southern New Mexico checkpoint last August.
During a plea hearing in October, he said he'd traveled from Alabama to Tijuana, Mexico, with a 13-year-old girl. He said he planned to take her to Chiapas to live with him, and admitted having had a sexual relationship with the girl since April 2010.
The judge also sentenced Jimenez-Rodas to a concurrent three-year sentence for falsely claiming to be a U.S. citizen.
