Search And Rescue After Domestic Incident

Las Cruces – Friday morning at approximately 5:55 a.m. Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to the 16000 block of Sly Song Circle, Organ, after a woman reported that her pregnant granddaughter had been allegedly "punched" in the stomach and head.

The Suspect, age 41, who allegedly threatened to kill everyone in the residence, ran from the back of the residence towards the mountains.

JOHN BLOOMQUIST was formally charged with one count of Battery Against a Household Member, a misdemeanor. BLOOMQUIST, originally from Alamogordo, resided with the Victim at the time of the alleged incident. It was first believed that the Suspect may have armed himself with a knife.

Sheriff's Deputies set up a perimeter and no fewer than eight sheriff's units responded in an attempt to locate the suspect, after the Suspect sent text messages that he was going to harm himself.

At approximately 9:00 a.m., two hours after the initial call, the Suspect surrendered to authorities when he reported seeing two K-9 units arrive on scene to assist in the search.

The suspect was transported to Memorial Medical Center for observation.

The Victim, age 24, the Suspects girlfriend who is three months pregnant, sustained minor injuries to her upper torso and head.
