The course of true love does not run smooth when an aristocratic young woman discovers she was betrothed in infancy to a king, particularly when the king doesn’t know about his royal blood and has been raised by a gondolier in Venice. That’s the premise of “The Gondoliers,” one of the last operettas written in 1889 by the famed team of Gilbert & Sullivan. The Starlight Theatre Company of Las Cruces will bring the beloved and spirited operetta to the Atkinson Recital Hall this weekend and next. Director Ginger Scarbrough Andersen came to the KRWG studios with cast members Bridget Andersen and Sophia Diven, to talk about “The Gondoliers” with Intermezzo host, Leora Zeitlin.
