Las Cruces Utilities Helps Disburse Various City and Community Aid

Las Cruces Utilities (LCU) works with many City of Las Cruces (City) departments that together are working to help residents and businesses come through to the other side of the pandemic, especially in making sure that COVID-19 relief financial aid can help drive down any high balances on customer’s utilities bill.

One department, Housing and Neighborhood Services of Economic Development, assists residents who may wonder what might be available to help them.

“We’re committed to helping low-income earners to stay ahead of any large debts,” Housing and Neighborhood Services Manager Natalie Green said.

Green helps allocate funds for different community needs, but utility assistance is available through Casa de Peregrinos, Mesilla Valley Community of Hope, and Catholic Charities.

A mandate from City Council halted shut-offs of utility services since March 2020, but as the City starts to move from yellow to green LCU wants to inform those who may need help due to long-term pandemic difficulties that assistance is available to prevent shut-offs when they resume.

“The balance will continue to accrue, and we don’t want it to overwhelm residents when there will be an effort to collect on payments,” explained Jose Provencio, LCU deputy director Business Services.

First step for any concerned customer is to reach out to LCU Customer Central at 541-2111 or email receivables@lascruces.org and include their name and street address. For those who want to do the process in person, there are two LCU locations to make it convenient for everyone:

  • Customer Central at City Hall, 700 N Main St., open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • East Mesa Customer Central Center just off Hwy 70, at 5195 Bataan Memorial West, open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
