Customers of RoadRUNNER Transit Dial-a-Ride service will receive a break in fare rates following the approval of Mayor Ken Miyagishima’s resolution by City Council at the Monday, August 5 City Council Meeting. The Dial-A-Ride fee will be temporarily reduced to $1 effective immediately for ADA qualifying riders as well as senior citizen riders for the duration of the City’s 2020 fiscal year per the resolution. Council also approved $100,000 transfer from the Gas Tax Fund to help offset the impact to the Transit budget. Fare exemption for single trips to and from a City-operated senior center will remain at no cost to qualified riders.
“Our residents with disabilities and our senior residents are obviously among our most needy and vulnerable citizens; public transportation is essential for so many of them,” said Mayor Ken Miyagishima. “Reducing the fare will hopefully be of some help until a long-term solution can be found.”
Dial-a-Ride paratransit service provides origin to destination on-demand transportation service to qualified individuals with disabilities as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). In 1996, the City added senior transportation and incorporated it into the Dial-a-Ride program.
RoadRUNNER Transit and Dial-a-Ride service hours are from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., Monday through Friday and 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. There is no service on Sunday.
