Las Cruces Requests Compliance of No Mass Gatherings at Parks on Easter Sunday

The City of Las Cruces reminds residents and guests that parks within city limits are and will remain closed until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The closure falls under the New Mexico Public Health Emergency Order put in place on Monday, March 23 closing all businesses except for those deemed essential.

The City is in compliance with the order which gives the New Mexico Health Department the legal authority to “preserve and promote public health and safety, to adopt isolation and quarantine and to close public places and forbid gatherings of people when deemed necessary by the department of public health.”

That stated, the City asks for compliance from the residents and guests of Las Cruces to not gather at the City’s parks this Easter Holiday (Sunday, April 12). The City understands the difficulties and inconvenience this may cause. We are thankful for your support and hopeful that through this community’s efforts, we can help reduce the spread and impact of this virus.

The City closed all public parks on March 24 at Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s direction. Since that time all park services which include medians, right of ways (ROW), alleys, parks, trails, restrooms and fountains are suspended until further notice.

City of Las Cruces news releases are available on the home page of the City website at las-cruces.org under News & Announcements and can be translated into Spanish and multiple other languages using the Select Language feature on the lower right side of the page.
