Las Cruces police arrested a man suspected of beating and strangling his wife

LAS CRUCES, NM - Las Cruces police arrested a man suspected of beating his wife and strangling the woman to the point she nearly lost consciousness.

Carlos Herrera, of the 5300 block of Sunny Acres Drive, is charged with two third-degree felony counts of aggravated battery against a household member, and a fourth-degree felony count of false imprisonment. Herrera is also charged with two misdemeanor counts of battery against a household member.

Police believe the incident occurred over a three-day period between Oct. 6 and Oct. 8, 2019.

Investigators learned an argument between Herrera and his wife became physical when Herrera repeatedly slapped, kicked and strangled the women to the point she nearly lost consciousness. Herrera is also suspected of holding his wife against her will.

The victim has bruises to her arms, legs and chest. She also had noticeable signs of being strangled.

A warrant was obtained for Herrera’s arrest. He was arrested Nov. 22 and booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center. Herrera has since been released on his own recognizance.
