April Tina Nastasi, 50, owner of April’s K911 academy in Las Cruces was arrested Friday, Aug. 27 for alleged extreme cruelty to animals. Nastasi lacks a kennel license and does not have a permit to board animals.
Thor, a dog under her care, experienced three gaping holes in his chest, which led to necrosis following hours of neglect.
Thor is now back home with his owner, Graciela Rodriguez. He is recovering after undergoing multiple surgeries. Additional surgeries may still be required to treat his wounds. According to the veterinarian, recovery has been slow and requires frequent veterinary visits because of the severity of his injuries and extensive loss of skin.
Thousands of animals are killed every year through neglect and cruelty in our country. While animals cannot speak for themselves, we can be their voice. If you observe or know of animal cruelty taking place, please report it to the Mesilla Valley Regional Dispatch Authority at (575) 526-0795 or 9-1-1.
