FREE! Valentine's Day Weddings on the Plaza de Las Cruces
LAS CRUCES, Wednesday, February 14, 2024 - Free weddings will be offered by Morning Star Church Las Cruces at the Plaza De Las Cruces (100 N Main Street) for the third year in a row from 11 AM to 7 PM on Valentine’s Day. Weddings also will take place in Little Toad Creek Brewery and Distillery (119 N. Main) from 11 AM to 5 PM.
Festivities will be provided in coordination with the people behind Fair Farmers Market, and at least a dozen local vendors will be participating to make the day extra special.
Couples may drive through or walk up to get married or renew their vows. Reservations are encouraged but not required. For the ceremony to be legally recognized as a marriage, an official marriage license must be obtained from the Doña Ana County Clerk’s office (845 N Motel Boulevard) before the wedding. Appointments to obtain a marriage license are available on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Two weeks’ notice is recommended to ensure availability of appointment. Please visit donaanacounty.org or call (575) 647-7421 for more information.
The weddings will be facilitated by Rev. Amy Wilson Feltz and friends of Morning Star Church as a gift to the community of Las Cruces.
"It has been such a joy to take part in the special day of so many couples during the past two years," said Wilson Feltz. "It is our hope that these free ceremonies downtown continue to enable people in our community to celebrate their commitments in a low-stress, fun and safe environment.”
Couples who are married during this event on Valentine’s Day will receive a professional photograph to commemorate the day. Other amenities will be provided for the couples while supplies last.
This year’s celebration will also include the opportunity to observe Ash Wednesday, which happens to take place on Valentine’s Day this year. A come-and-go opportunity to begin the religious season of Lent with the mark of ashes in the sign of the cross on the forehead will be available to anyone who would like to take part, not just the couples to be married or their friends and family members.
“It may seem a bit strange to offer the sign of ashes during a day of weddings,” Wilson Feltz said, “but the reminder of our own mortality and dependence on God align quite well with the vow to remain faithful “until death do us part.”
