Las Cruces Public Schools Cancels Monday Afternoon Bus Service Due To Extreme Heat

LAS CRUCES –Las Cruces Public Schools has cancelled afternoon bus transportation for students attending the K-3 Plus Program on Monday, July 23, Superintendent Greg Ewing announced Sunday evening. The cancellation is due to an extreme heat advisory issued by the National Weather Service.

Morning buses will run according to schedule on Monday. However, parents of students attending K-3 Plus classes will need to provide afternoon transportation for their children.

Las Cruces Public Schools typically halts transportation services when the heat index (which factors for humidity) exceeds 104 degrees.

Las Cruces Public Schools urges parents to learn the signs of heat stroke and heat exhaustion, and to stress to their children the importance of staying hydrated in the hot summer months.

Parents of students who typically walk home from school are encouraged to make arrangements to have them picked up in extreme heat situations.

Further updates on regarding transportation will be regularly updated on the district’s website, www.lcps.k12.nm.us.
