Police continue to investigate the July 29 shooting on Arizona Avenue that injured a 16-year-old boy and 23-year-old man, and Las Cruces Crime Stoppers is now offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that helps identify the shooters.

About 3 a.m. Sunday, July 29, police were dispatched to reports of shots fired on the 1600 block of Arizona Avenue. Officers arrived to find a 16-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to his abdomen and a 23-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his head.

The boy was transported to University Medical Center of El Paso while the man was taken to Mountainview Regional Medical Center.

Investigators determined that a large party was held at the home and some type of altercation between attendees erupted into an affray. Gunshots were fired, and the two victims were struck. Police have determined that multiple shots were fired by at least three different people. Investigators have identified two of the shooters and ask for the public’s help in identifying others.

Videos reviewed by police show other revelers taking video or photos with their cell phones during the melee and possibly when shots were fired. Investigators ask for anyone who has video or photos of the incident to please contact police.

Anyone with information, video or photos of the incident is asked to call Las Cruces Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Tips can also be provided through the Las Cruces Crime Stoppers app, “P3 TIPS.” The app is available through the App Store on most devices.

Those who provide tips through Crime Stoppers do not have to leave their own name and can remain completely anonymous.
