Feb 21, 2019

Las Cruces, NM – On this edition of PUENTES a la comunidad, bridges to the community, host Emily Guerra met with this year’s Las Cruces Arts Fair featured artist, Hal Marcus, of El Paso, Texas. This will be his first time exhibiting in Las Cruces. For owner and operator for 23 years of Hal Marcus Studio & Gallery, the oldest art gallery in El Paso, one of his favorite art pieces is “El Mercado Juarez.” It depicts the marketplace in Juarez inspired by his weekly trips to Juarez with his Syrian grandmother to buy produce for the family grocery store.

Flamenco dancer and teacher Frank “Paco Antonio” Gilpin first heard flamenco music when he was a dance student at UNM, and immediately enrolled in a flamenco class. “This was really hard,” he said, but he soon realized “this is my passion. I’m going to discover some way to do this.” Gilpin went to study with flamenco masters in Spain, and has been bringing his passion, talent and skill to the stage and to his students ever since.
