Empowering Communities in Doña Ana County

Las Cruces, NM - On this edition of PUENTES, bridges to the community, host Emily Guerra meets with Coordinator for the (EC) Empowerment Congress of Doña Ana County, Victoria Quevedo.

EC began in 2012 as the Doña Ana Quality of Life Initiative by a group of community members concerned with the economic and health statistics in our region. Top priorities for the group are public transportation; services for youth/education; road/water/electricity infrastructure; services for elders; public safety; and health/healthcare. The original Empowerment Congress began in Los Angeles, California in 1992, and is celebrating their 25th Anniversary.

Currently EC is in collaboration with La Semilla on a Healthy Food Financing Initiative for Doña Ana County, which would make healthy and affordable food more accessible; with ACLU to bring Know Your Rights workshops to rural areas in Doña Ana County; hosting Health & Wellness fairs in three rural neighborhoods of Doña Ana County; and with Doña Ana Communities United.
