Jazmin Garcia, Arrowhead Park Medical Academy

Jazmin is a dedicated member of National Honor Society. She has put in nearly 100 community service hours.

She placed third in the state HOSA competition in Medical Terminology.

Jazmin also belongs to the Burrell College Youth Medical Explorers program

She has played volleyball competitively and babysits her nephews and niece when she can.

Oluwamayowa Idowu, Oñate High School

Oluwamayowa has completed community service hours as a part of National Honor Society.

She recently moved to Las Cruces and is a native of Niger, Africa.

Despite the need to get used to a new school, new friends, and new cultures, she has flourished academically and has become one of the top performing students at Oñate High School.

Oluwamayowa has taken and passed numerous AP Classes, has lettered in academics, and is an active member of the National Honor Society.

Maya Gabitzsch, Centennial High School

Maya has helped in Toss No Mass, which is an organization that promotes cleaning up the environment.  She has also helped with soccer camps, media camps, Make A Wish Foundation and many Student Government after school activities.

She takes many AP and honors classes and has received letters for Varsity soccer, journalism and student government. She is a graduate of the 2018-2019 Junior Leadership program and is in National Honors Society. In student government, she has been freshmen Vice President, sophomore Vice President and Junior President.

Maya has been the JV captain for soccer her freshmen and sophomore year. She was the editor for her school’s newspaper and participated in a state journalism competition.

She is also is a member of MESA, a STEM program at her school.

Ryan Evans, Centennial High School

Ryan has volunteered with the Bantam Weight Football League, helping to run games and hold markers on the sidelines.  He has also volunteered the past two years with the school’s basketball camp for children and with the Miracle League, helping kids with special needs play baseball.  This past year. he also volunteered at a Special Olympic event held at NMSU.

Ryan is active in Renaissance- an organization that celebrates students and teachers at the school, as well as National Honor Society and the National Society of High School Scholars.  He is also active in both basketball and track at the school and club basketball during the spring and summer months.  He does all of this while maintaining a job and excellent grades.

Yesenia Earth, Oñate High School

Yesenia volunteered for numerous community service projects, including Red Cross.

She maintains a high grade point average while taking Spanish and AP Geography.

Yesenia is an active participant of both Concert Band and Jazz Band.  During her senior year, she will also participate in Cheer and is a member of HOSA.

Kimberly Ann Casares, Arrowhead Park Medical Academy

Kimberly volunteers with Habitat for Humanity, Casa de Oro, and Casa de Sol by keeping the elderly company. Before she became certified as a Nursing Assistant, she spent 60 hours volunteering at Casa de Oro.

She has maintained a high grade point average while taking honors, dual credit, and AP classes. She will graduate with an Associates of Science and a high school degree.

She is CPR-certified and certified in wilderness first aid. She is trilingual and speaks English, Spanish, and German.

Kimberly has also been involved in martial arts since the age of 12. She currently trains in Maximum Martial Arts. She is a member of HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America), the Medical Explorers at Burrell College, and the German-American Partnership Program.

Nayeli Chaparro, Centennial High School

Nayeli volunteers in Youth Choir, playing at the youth mass. She is also part of the Retreat Team, which helps plan retreats at church.  She has been involved in "Toss No Mas" and served as an alter attendant and in church fiestas and a variety of church activities.

Nayeli has been an officer in MESA for two years and has participated in Orchestra for six years and has Academic and Orchestra letters.

She has been in All State Honor Orchestra, Southwest Honor Orchestra

State Champions in Symphonic Orchestra, 1st and 3rd place in the Science Olympiad Competition, and 3rd place in the MESA Rally.

She has also taken several AP classes and is fully bilingual in English and Spanish.

Citlalli Benitez, Centennial High School

Citlalli volunteers through Student Government, Elderly home visits, "Dress a child," and National Honor Society.

She is a letter-winner in Orchestra, Media, and Academics.

She was a 2017 Orchestra State Champion and placed third in "Feature Writing" at a 2018 New Mexico Media Conference

She is a Bilingual Seal Candidate and is a member of the Centennial H.S. Orchestra, National Honor Society, Centennial High School Journalism and Centennial Student Government.

Samantha Barela, Oñate High School

Samantha has participated in various community service projects through her participation in softball.  She has spent three years helping youth from all over New Mexico and west Texas with softball camps.  She also prepares food and delivers meals and necessities to the homeless population.  In addition, she spends time helping siblings with baseball and softball and helps tutor middle school students in algebra.

Samantha has maintained a high grade point average while participating in sports. She has taken AP and Honors classes all four years and holds an Academic letter.

Samantha is an all-district shortstop on her school's softball team.  She has started on the varsity softball team since freshman year and has earned three varsity letters.  Samantha was also selected to participate with the elite softball team for the past three years and traveled to California, Arizona, and Nevada.

Mohammad Badawy, Arrowhead Park Medical Academy

Mohammad participates in Student Government. He helps raise money for the school by running the morning Coffee Carts and organizing the Spring Carnival. He also helps to host farewell parties for faculty and helps to run the Smash Bro Tournaments. He is involved in National Honor Society and volunteers on a regular basis throughout the Las Cruces community as well. He is a member of the Yearbook staff and is an active volunteer for the Islamic Center of Las Cruces and the Islamic Center of El Paso.

In 2018, Mohammad received the Captain Victor A. Moitoret Memorial Award for Military History at the state National History Day competition, and in 2019, he placed first in the state National History Day competition with his research paper.

He has received the Distinguished Alumni award with Envision for “demonstrated leadership potential and dedication to the Profession of Medicine” and received the Scientists Award of Excellence from the National Academy of Future Physicians “for outstanding academic achievement, leadership potential and determination to serve humanity in the field of medicine.”

Katie Allbright, Las Cruces High School

Katie was an officer and member of both the City Slicker 4-H Club and the Dona Ana County 4-H Council; she was involved in the following community service projects - Collected and donated clothing and supplies to Community of Hope, Jardin De Los Ninos, and La Casa; Collected and donated toys and paper goods to Ronald McDonald House in Albuquerque; Collected and donated fabric and fabric scraps to a ladies’ group in Palomas, Mexico.

She was also an officer and member of the Las Cruces High School HOSA club, which participated in several community service activities.

As the President of the Las Cruces Parks and Recreation Youth Board, Katie participated in the following community service activities: Volunteering hours with the Soup Kitchen, helping with activities for children during Anti-Crime week, Collecting canned goods from all LCPS schools, and donating to various shelters throughout the city of Las Cruces.

Katie also received an Academic Letter of Achievement from Las Cruces High School and was invited to join the National Honor Society.  She was also selected to serve on the Las Cruces High School Student Advisory Committee and elected as a Dona Ana County 4-H Council Officer.

Pedro Acosta, Centennial High School

Pedro has participated in countless community service projects, both outside and inside of the school community. He has cleaned up Centennial’s campus multiple times, has volunteered at dog shelters and the soup kitchen, and even helped at Sagecrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He has also volunteered for Dress a Child and Toys for Tots and raised hundreds of dollars for the Centennial Journalism Program.

He has lettered in both journalism and in student government.

Pedro also challenged himself by taking four AP classes and passed every single one. He has taken at least one honors course per year and his sophomore year he decided to get ahead in his science credits by taking both honors biology and chemistry and passing both with an A.

In student government, Pedro has set up school events such as spirit weeks, dances, student-led workshops, elections, community service events, teacher appreciation weeks and prom.

Gabriel Acosta, Centennial High School

Gabriel has completed many community service projects, such as helping Mesa Middle School plant a garden and trees and playing in a band to help raise money to donate to La Pinon.

He has also participated in the National Honor Society.

Not only does Gabriel excel in school, but in sports as well, playing varsity football for three years and being selected to the second team all-district lineup.  He also competes in track.

Outside of school, Gabriel is involved in music, playing in a band.

Marisol Lozano, Arrowhead Park Medical Academy

Since her freshman year, Marisol Lozano has been in HOSA, formerly known as Health Occupation Students of America.  She has been a state officer twice.  She was elected as HOSA State President in February of 2018.  The awards she has received with this include Gold medal, Community Awareness- 2016, Bronze medal, Epidemiology- 2016. She even competed at Internationals in Nashville, TN., winning Gold medal, Biomedical Debate- 2017, Silver medal CPR/First Aid- 2017. The next year she competed at Internationals in Orlando FL., winning Gold medal, Community Awareness- 2018 and Gold medal, Researched Persuasive Writing & Speaking- 2018.

Henry Gatica-Gutierrez, Oñate High School

Henry Gatica-Gutierrez, Oñate High School,  was recognized as a Hispanic National Merit Scholar. He has lettered in academics and maintained a rigorous course load while participating in extra-curricular activities. He is a member of the Science Olympiad team, the baseball team as well as the Marching and Symphonic band.

Elizabeth Furr received Academic Letters.  She was inducted into the National Honor Society and is the Mechanical and Strategy Captain for the robotics team.

She participates in National Honor Society and FIRST Robotics, through which she performs community service.  She also took photos and formatted pages for the school yearbook.  

Salvador Filerio, Mayfield High School

Salvador received Hispanic National Merit Scholar recognition and received 2nd place on the AP exam portion of the Chemistry Science Olympiad competition. He has lettered in academics and has been a dedicated member of the Science Olympiad teams all while maintaining a rigorous class load and remaining dedicated to his extra-curricular activities.  Salvador has been involved in marching and symphonic band through all years in high school.

He participates in the community regularly through church. Most recently, he helped serve at El Caldito Soup Kitchen. In the future, he would like to volunteer his time working with cancer patients and helping to find gentler treatments.

Jacqueline Estrada, Mayfield High School

Jacqueline Estrada is active in Orchestra, Symphony, and Winter Guard.

Her honors include:  Symphony-section leader, Orchestra- Principal Violist, Mayfield High School certificate of academic achievement, Mayfield High School Academic letter, Solo and Ensemble music festival- Superior rating.

Jacqueline is an extremely active member of her community, accumulating roughly 150 hours of community service.

Annika Conn, Mesilla Valley Christian School

Annika is part of the Varsity Volleyball Team, Varsity Basketball Team, National Honor Society, Students Leading through Service, and the Spanish Club.

She has won All-District Basketball Player, Homecoming Princess, All-District Volleyball Player, NMHSCA Class 2A All-State 2nd Team Volleyball,  All-Tourney Team Lady Cardinal Volleyball Invitational, All-Tourney Team Cliff Round-Up Basketball Tourney,  All-Tourney Team Reserve Basketball Invitational, MVCS Girls Basketball MVP 2018, MVCS Girls Basketball Coaches Award 2018, and is an All District 3-2A Basketball Player.

Khanh Ly (Sky) Cao, Oñate High School

Sky is a member of her high school Marksmanship Team, which won numerous matches at competitions in New Mexico and Texas.

She is Executive Officer of NJROTC. Responsible for the management, administration and training of 130 assigned cadets. Plans and participates in community service and outreach. Competes as a member of the Marksmanship, Drill and physical fitness teams. She has achieved the position and rank of Cadet lieutenant while just completing her second year in the unit.

Sky averages over 250 hours per year in support of organizations such as LCPS , VFW Post 6917, Senior Olympics, Morningside Village, and Las Cruces Rod Runners.

Chaeley Boykin, Centennial High School

Chaeley is a member of Student Government, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Media Program, and Renaissance.  She is also a varsity cheerleader and pole vaulter for Centennial High School.  In addition, she is a Junior Rotarian and a member of the National Honor Society.

Through St. Paul's, Chaeley has volunteered for VBS, Children's ministry, and El Cavario.  Through student government, she helped veterans and served as a child educator volunteer.  Through National Honor Society, she has volunteered in various classrooms.

Jacqueline is very active in extra-curricular activities.  She is the Secretary of National Honor Society, a prom committee member, and she leads the student government team and the yearbook club.  She was also selected to participate in Junior Leadership sponsored by the Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce.

Christa is a past participant of TeenPact Leadership School- a week long state conference that teaches middle school and high school students about government.

She received a Centennial High School Academic Letter Award and was a participant in the New Mexico State University Young Women in Computing.  She was a Distinguished Young Women of New Mexico Finalist: a national scholarship program that promotes and rewards scholarship, leadership, and talent in young women.  She was also a nominee and future participant of the National Youth Leadership Forum on Advanced Medicine and Healthcare at Johns Hopkins University

Jaylen Acosta, Oñate High School

Jaylen has high goals to graduate in the top 10 of her class with a 4.0 GPA or higher.

She hopes to earn a degree in education to be a teacher and coach basketball.

Her accomplishments include taking numerous AP and Honors classes, earning an academic letter, being a part of the National Honor Society, and playing Varsity Basketball.

She also finds time to give back by volunteering with the New Mexico Senior Olympics Summer Games, Camp of Champ Basketball Camps and Comcast Cares Days
