New Mexico depends heavily on infrastructure investments from the federal government.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has spent nearly $67 million dollars on rural development projects in Dona Ana County since 2009.

Over $25 million was spent on housing…including home loans.

And more than $41 million went to business and infrastructure.  Water and wastewater is a big part of that.  For example, more than $8 million dollars was spent on wastewater systems in 2014 alone.  And $1.2 million was spent on an arsenic treatment system in La Union in 2012.

USDA New Mexico Rural Development Director Terry Brunner also says USDA is helping rural communities get better internet service….including a recent investment at the Mescalero Reservation near Ruidoso.
