Torres Small Joins 50+ Members of Congress Questioning Decision to Withdraw Kurdish Support

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Xochitl Torres Small, NM-2, issued the following statement after joining 57 other members of Congress requesting additional information on the Administration’s decision to withdraw U.S. troops from northeastern Syria:

“As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I am deeply troubled by the removal of US forces from Syria. This President's decision will put our Kurdish allies in peril, have grave effects on the stability of the Middle East, and threaten America's national security.  Amidst increasing tensions around the world, the U.S. can’t turn its back on allies who have faithfully fought alongside our service members. If we are serious about rooting out ISIS and other terrorist networks, we cannot afford to have our allies question our reliability. The Administration’s decision to reverses a long-held position that now jeopardizes our greater counter-terrorism efforts.  I urge the President and the Administration to heed bipartisan calls to reconsider this decision.”
