Task Force Investigates Las Cruces Officer-involved Shooting

Las Cruces police and the multi-agency Officer-involved Incident Task Force are investigating a shooting that occurred Thursday evening.

Preliminary information from the investigation indicates that, about 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, Las Cruces police officers were involved in a shooting on the campus of Las Cruces High School.  The adult male, who has no affiliation to Las Cruces High School and who was wanted by police on a felony warrant, led officers on a foot pursuit from the area of Boutz Road and Espina Street toward the school campus.  The shooting was not an active-shooter situation.

The task force is comprised of investigators from New Mexico State Police, Las Cruces Police, the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office and New Mexico State University Police. Once completed, results of the investigation are shared with the Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

Officials from Las Cruces Public Schools, stated classes will resume on Friday, Sept. 28, at regular time at the high school.  Police expect a portion of the campus to be closed off for further investigation.
