SWAT Team Takes Wanted Deming Man into Custody

Doña Ana County Detention Center

The subject of Tuesday’s SWAT callout on east Hadley Avenue, wanted in Deming, N.M., and Las Cruces on felony warrants, was taken into custody about 12:30 p.m.

Patricio Fierro, 29, of Deming, N.M., was believed to be armed and barricaded in a home on the 900 block of east Hadley Avenue. About 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 25, the Las Cruces Police Department’s SWAT team was activated, surrounded the home and began the process of making contact with Fierro.

At least two other occupants left the home during the incident.

Members of the SWAT team cleared nearby homes while residents in some surrounding homes were asked to shelter in place. Roads in the area were temporarily blocked during the incident. The SWAT team discharged at least three audible diversionary devices.

A sergeant with LCPD’s Hostage Negotiations Team made telephonic contact with Fierro and was instrumental in negotiating his surrender. About 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Fierro exited the home and was taken into custody without further incident.

No shots were fired, and no injuries were reported.

Fierro was turned over to the custody of federal agents. The FBI is the lead investigative agency and is coordinating efforts with area law enforcement agencies.
