State Park Ranger Grant Taylor Named Valedictorian at State Law Enforcement Academy

Santa Fe, NM: New Mexico Department of Public Safety named State Park Ranger Grant Taylor valedictorian of Law Enforcement Academy Class # 192 at its May 20th graduation ceremony. Taylor, of Elephant Butte Lake State Park, is one of only a few park officers from New Mexico State Parks to receive that honor.

“The Division is proud to have a leader and an all-round ranger joining the team at Elephant Butte Lake State Park,” said Barry Lucero, Law Enforcement and Boating Safety Bureau Chief. “Ranger Taylor is a wonderful addition to our parks law enforcement team and will be a great asset to the Division.”

Taylor is the son of Terry and Susan Taylor of Truth or Consequences and is a 2001 graduate of Hot Springs High School, where he was an All-State athlete in football, basketball and golf.

The honor of valedictorian is awarded to the student who receives top overall scores in academics, physical fitness, driving, firearms, and leadership categories during the 16-week session.  The Department of Public Safety trains law enforcement recruits for most state, county, and municipal law enforcement agencies from around the state except for New Mexico State Police and the Albuquerque Police Department, which have their own academies.

“It was an experience, I’ll say that,” said Taylor of his training. “I’m real excited to be back at home and to start work at the park.

Taylor began work May 23rd at Elephant Butte Lake State Park.
