Rio Grande Theatre in Las Cruces to Reopen July 2 with Back-to-Back Productions

  The historic Rio Grande Theatre, 211 N. Main St., in downtown Las Cruces will reopen July 2 with back-to-back performances from Blank Conversation Theatre Company (BCTC).  Here is a statement from the City:

Beginning July 2, audiences can enjoy eight performances of the musical The Mad Ones, by Kait Kerrigan and Brian Lowdermilk.

The Mad Ones follows a woman named Samantha Brown as she faces her future and the choice between following in the footsteps of her mother or to explore a new path. The musical had its Off-Broadway premiere in 2017, courtesy of Prospect Theater Company at 59E59.

Performances will be at 7 p.m. on July 2, July 3, July 8, July 9, July 16, and July 17. Performances at 2 p.m. will be on Sunday, July 11 and July 18.  Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online at RioGrandeTheatre.com. On July 8, New Mexico State University and high school students can get in for only $5 with a student ID at the door.

Additionally, BCTC will be performing the hilarious theatrical adaption of The Complete History of America (abridged), by Adam Long, Reed Martin, Austin Tichenor.

The Complete History of America (abridged) condenses 600 years of history in 6,000 seconds. From Washington to Watergate, from New World to New World Order – The Complete History of America (abridged) is a 90-minute, hilarious roller coaster ride through the glorious quagmire that is American History.

Performances will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, July 14, July 21, and July 28. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online at RioGrandeTheatre.com.

The theatre will also be back with an abbreviated 2021 Classic Film and Kids Dollar Movie series.  The Classic Film Series begins July 24 with Dr. Strangelove (or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb); followed by Bye Bye Birdie, on August 21; Here to Eternity, September 11; The Shining, on October 16; Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, November 20; and It's a Wonderful Life, on December 18.

Movies will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased online at RioGrandeTheatre.com.

The Saturday Kids Dollar Movies also resumes at 1 p.m. July 24 with the Disney original The Lion King; followed by Enchanted, August 21; Inside Out, September 11; Frankenweenie, October 16; Pinocchio, November 20; and The Muppet Christmas Carol, December 18.

All kid’s movies will begin at 1 p.m. Tickets are $1 and can only be purchased online or at the door.

The theatre will also feature a selection of community rental events and concerts, as well as the Tribute Band Series featuring the best of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin, the Eagles and many more.
